BUYING GUIDES

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT SIZE FAN TO PURCHASE - THERE ARE SO MANY SIZES AVAILABLE?

Choosing the right fan size for your space is important to maximize not only the comfort level, but also energy efficiency. If your fan is too small for the room, it won't move enough air to make you feel comfortable. If the fan is too big, it could move too much air even on a low setting. Use the table below as a guideline based on the square footage of your space: For Rooms Up To: Fan Blade Span: 10 m². 90cm -122cm 40 m² 132cm – 137cm 40 m² or bigger 142cm

HOW MUCH AIR DO CEILING FANS MOVE? CAN YOU COMPARE HUNTER WITH NON-HUNTER?

Cubic feet per minute or 'CFM' is the unit used to measure the airflow of a ceiling fan. The greater the CFM, the more air that is being moved. The Blade Size and Shape, Blade Pitch and Motor Performance are essential for superior air movement. At Hunter Fan Company, we are constantly testing the combination of these three elements to maximize the performance of our products. From the number and shape of the blades to the motor size, the slightest change can make a difference in a fan's overall functionality and ultimately creating the perfect level of comfort.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A FOUR AND FIVE BLADE CEILING FAN?

The differences between a four or five blade fan are minimal and depend on personal preference. A fan with five blades does not move quite as much air as a fan with four blades, because the extra blade causes more resistance on the motor.

WHAT MAKES THE HUNTER ORIGINAL® UNIQUE?

The Hunter Original® fan design dates back to the turn of the 20th century, and, to this day, the Original delivers superior performance that lasts for years. The heavy cast-iron body not only helps minimize fan wobble, but also helps to draw heat away from the electrical parts of the motor. The motor is larger than any other ceiling fan, making it the most powerful motor available. This allows the blades to be pitched at a 15-degree angle, which produces greater air movement with less noise. And with the oil-bath lubrication system, all the major moving parts of the motor are well-protected to prolong the life of the motor. Added up, these unique design elements produce a high-quality fan backed by a limited lifetime warranty.

WILL A CEILING FAN HELP ME SAVE MONEY?

The simple answer? Yes! Let's break down this wind chill effect into dollars and sense. A ceiling fan can make a room feel six to eight degrees cooler than the actual ambient temperature (so an 80° room feels like 72°.) Now your air conditioner doesn't have to work as hard. Nice! What about winter? Don’t make the mistake of turning off your fan. Instead, run it clockwise to push warm air down and gently recirculate it without creating a cooling effect. Congrats—you just saved up to 47% on cooling costs and up to 15% on heating costs. (Of course, your savings will depend on local climate conditions and energy rates. But still—not too shabby, right?)

CEILING FAN DIRECTION

HOW DO I KNOW WHAT DIRECTION TO SET MY CEILING FAN?

Running a ceiling fan in the proper direction all year round can help save energy and keep you more comfortable. Here's how: In the summertime, running your ceiling fan counter-clockwise will provide a cooling breeze while circulating the air. During the winter, a clockwise rotation will move the cooler air off the floor and push the warm air down the walls without the strong draft.

ENERGY TIPS AND USAGE

HOW DO FANS COOL THE ROOM - DO THEY ACTUALLY LOWER THE TEMPERATURE?

A ceiling fan doesn't lower the temperature of the room - it just feels like it does. Ceiling fans create a wind chill effect that makes you feel cooler similar to an open window in a moving car. If you have a ceiling fan in a room with a temperature of 80 degrees, running the fan can create a wind chill effect that makes you feel as if the temperature is 72 degrees. Using your ceiling fan and air conditioner together can help lower energy costs.

HOW MUCH CAN I EXPECT TO SAVE IN HEATING AND OR COOLING COSTS?

Using a ceiling fan can save up to 47% on cooling costs and up to 15% on heating costs. Savings will vary depending on your local climate conditions and energy the rates in your area.

HOW MUCH ELECTRICITY WILL A FAN DRAW?

On average, a ceiling fan run on high speed will consume less power than a 100-watt light bulb.

WOULD USING MY FAN IN TH WINTER BE BENEFICAIL?

Using a ceiling fan in a clock-wise direction on low speed during the winter can help lower energy consumption by up to 15%. The air near the ceiling of a room is warmer than the air near the floor so a ceiling fan can help push the warmer air that is trapped near the ceiling back down the walls and into the room. Now that the warmer air is where it's needed, the heating system doesn't have to work as much to warm the room.

HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR FAN

HOW DO I ADD OIL TO A HUNTER ORIGINAL® FAN?

Your fan has been shipped without oil in the motor so you will need to add it before installation. You'll find a tube of high grade SAE 10 non-detergent oil packaged in the hardware bag. 1. Remove cap if present 2. Cut the tip off the end of the tube 3. Place the tube into the oil hole and gently squeeze the tube to empty the oil into the fan's reservoir NOTE: To avoid overflowing during filling, add a third of the oil from the tube at a time. Pause for 30 seconds between each third to allow the oil to settle in the fan. Make sure that you fill all the oil from the tube into the fan.

WHAT IS THE PART NUMBER OF THE OIL TUBE FOR MY HUNTER ORIGINAL® FAN?

The part number for the 1/8 oz. tube of oil used in Hunter Original fan motors is 22732.

WHY DO SOME FANS REQUIRE OIL AND SOME DO NOT?

Hunter fans do not require oil, with one exception. The Hunter Original® has a very unique motor that uses an oil-bath lubrication system. This system keeps the main bearings lubricated at all times, for quiet operation and long-life.

LIGHTING AND BULBS

CAN I USE DIFFERENT LIGHT BULBS THAN THE ONES THAT CAME WITH MY FAN?

Light bulb technology is constantly changing. To ensure you are using the correct light bulb type for your fan, follow these guidelines: - The light bulbs must use the same bulb socket size as the original bulbs. - If you are using a handheld remote or wall control and want dimming capapbility, you must use dimming light bulbs. - The wattage of the light bulbs cannot exceed the wattage listed on the label of the light fixture socket.

CAN I SWITCH MY FAN'S LIGHT KIT TO A DIFFERENT ONE?

If your fan was manufactured with a light kit, you cannot switch to a different light kit. Reason: Each fan is designed, tested, and agency-approved with the original light kit. A tip: If you would like to select your light kit, purchase a fan made without a light kit and purchase an accessory light kit separately.

MY CEILING FAN CAME WITHOUT A LIGHT FIXTURE: CAN I ADD ONE?

Yes, you can add a Hunter accessory light fixture to your fan. Follow the guidelines below to ensure you choose the right light kit fixture for your space. If you still have questions, please contact us. 1. Select a light fixture that matches the environment where your fan is installed. Outdoor-rated light fixtures must be used on fans installed outdoors. 2. Hunter make various light fixture styles - globe or bowl designs and multi-arm light fixtures. A multi-arm light fixture will typically have a higher light output than a bowl or globe fixture. 3. The light fixtures come with several different light bulb sizes and types. Be sure the light bulb specifications and especially the socket size match your needs.
